Case Analysis

Upload a case document and get AI-matched experts with draft inquiries ready to send.

5 min read

Case Analysis turns a single case document — a complaint, motion, deposition, or investigation report — into a vetted shortlist of experts plus pre-written outreach, without you having to write the search queries yourself.

#When to use it

Use Case Analysis when you know what happened but aren't yet sure who you need to hire. Examples:

  • Product-liability case where the failure mode could involve several engineering disciplines
  • Medical-malpractice matter that might need a specialist, a standard-of-care expert, or both
  • Complex commercial dispute where you need economists, forensic accountants, or industry operators

For matters where you already know the expert you want, regular search is faster.

#The workflow

  1. Upload — go to Dashboard → Case Analysis → New Analysis and drop in a PDF
  2. Review the summary — edit the issues and expert disciplines the AI extracted
  3. Approve — this kicks off expert matching
  4. Shortlist — pick the experts you want to reach
  5. Edit drafts — review and tweak the auto-generated inquiry for each expert
  6. Send — choose Platform or Copy mode
  7. Track responses — record outcomes as experts reply

#Upload

From Case Analysis → New Analysis, drop a PDF into the uploader or click to browse. Reasonable-sized PDFs (complaints, expert reports, deposition excerpts) work best. Very large documents may take longer to process.

Once uploaded, you land on the analysis detail page. The status indicator shows what's happening:

  • Parsing — extracting text from the PDF
  • Analyzing — identifying legal issues, claims, jurisdiction, and expert needs
  • Matching — finding experts in the Exlitem directory
  • Ready — everything is queued up for your review

The page polls automatically while work is in progress — you can leave and come back.

#Review the summary

Once parsing and analysis finish, a summary appears with:

  • Case type and jurisdiction
  • Key legal issues and claims
  • Expert disciplines the case likely needs
  • Notable facts pulled from the document

Hit Edit Summary to adjust anything the AI got wrong before approving. You might add a specific sub-specialty the document implied but didn't name, correct a jurisdiction, or drop an issue that isn't relevant.

Click Approve Summary to lock the summary and trigger expert matching.

#Matched experts

After approval, you get a ranked list of experts. Each expert card shows:

  • Name, headline, and key credentials
  • Match score — how closely the expert's profile matches the case
  • Conflict warnings — flags on the profile that are worth reviewing (prior engagements, opposing counsel history, etc.) before reaching out

Select the experts you want to engage. Selected experts move into the inquiry-drafting step.

#Edit inquiry drafts

For each selected expert, Case Analysis generates a first-pass inquiry that references the specific issues from your case. Click into any draft to edit the subject, body, or attachments before sending. Common edits:

  • Tighten the language to match your firm's voice
  • Add a confidentiality ask
  • Adjust the initial rate or availability question

#Send mode: Platform vs. Copy

Two ways to deliver the inquiries:

ModeWhat happens
PlatformWe send the inquiries through Exlitem. Replies come back as threads in your dashboard. Response tracking updates automatically.
CopyWe give you the drafts as copy-to-clipboard text. You send from your own email. You still record responses manually in Case Analysis, but Exlitem isn't in the delivery path.

Pick the mode that matches how you usually reach experts for this kind of matter.

#Record responses

Once an expert replies (whether via Platform or your own email), click Record Response on their outreach card. You can capture:

  • Status — interested, declined, unavailable, conflicted
  • Quoted rate
  • Availability window
  • Notes — anything you want to remember about the conversation

This is your running log of outreach for the analysis. When the case is done, you have a defensible audit trail of who was contacted and why they were or weren't engaged.

#Pagination and history

The Case Analysis list page shows all the analyses you've run. Long lists paginate at 20 per page. Click any entry to resume where you left off.

#FAQ

Can I re-run the analysis if the AI got the issues wrong? Yes — edit the summary before approving, or create a fresh analysis with the same document and adjusted context.

Will this replace Cases and the 8-stage pipeline? No. Case Analysis is an upstream workflow that helps you identify and reach experts quickly. Once an expert says yes, you still add them to a case to manage the engagement through the normal pipeline stages.

Is my uploaded document private? Yes. Uploads are stored privately and used only to drive the analysis for your account. They're not shared with experts, and are not used to train general models.

I don't see Case Analysis in my dashboard. The feature is rolling out gradually behind a flag. If you'd like early access, email [email protected].
