Sanjay Adhia

Dr. Sanjay Adhia is a Board-Certified Psychiatrist specializing in Forensic Psychiatry, Brain Injury Medicine, and general Psychiatry, licensed to practice medicine in Texas and testify in most states nationally. Dr. Adhia has been in practice since 2014 and provides expert analysis on matters involving psychiatric diagnoses, forensic evaluations, brain injuries, and competency including testamentary capacity and undue influence. He is also a certified Medical Review Officer and holds a Florida Medical Doctor Expert Witness Certificate. In 2022, Kerry Mendes, MD, an Adult, Child & Adolescent Forensic Psychiatrist added to his practice.

Dr. Adhia is the founder of Adhia & Associates, a private practice group focused on forensic psychiatry. He treats patients at The Institute of Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR) Memorial Hermann, treating patients recovering from brain, stroke, and spinal cord injuries. His past experience also includes serving as Medical Director at PACE Mental Health Clinic and Psychiatrist for the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Texas, and psychiatrist at Avenue 360 Health & Wellness, working with underserved populations, including individuals experiencing homelessness, substance use disorders, and HIV.

In his academic capacity, Dr. Adhia is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Texas Health Science Center, where he mentors residents in forensic psychiatry. He has also delivered presentations on forensic psychiatry, psychiatric malpractice, and related topics at professional conferences and universities.

Dr. Adhia’s government service includes appointments to the Texas Governor's Advisory Committee on Offenders with Medical or Mental Impairments and the Geriatric Sub-Committee. He also holds government contracts with the U.S. Department of Defense and Federal Courts and is federally registered through CAGE, SAM, and DUNS systems.

Dr. Adhia completed his Fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry at Oregon Health & Science University, and residency in Psychiatry at the University of Kansas Medical Center and University of Texas Health and Sciences Center. 

His professional affiliations include the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, and the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies.
