About
I provide expert analysis and consultation in police use-of-force, officer-involved shootings, body-worn camera interpretation, and critical incident reconstruction for attorneys evaluating or litigating force-related cases.
I am an active law-enforcement professional with 17 years of experience as a Jail Sergeant, Patrol Sergeant, CID Sergeant (Special Crimes & Major Crimes), Detective, Field Training Officer, and Crisis/Hostage Negotiator. My background includes hundreds of criminal case reviews, complex investigations, and leadership roles in high-stress, high-liability incidents.
My consulting work is performed independently and outside duty hours. I offer objective, case-focused expert evaluations for civil rights attorneys, criminal defense attorneys, and municipal defense firms.
Areas of Expertise:
• Use-of-force (Graham) evaluations and threat-perception analysis
• Officer-involved shooting review and reconstruction
• Body-worn camera interpretation (perception gaps & angle limitations)
• Action–reaction and human-performance analysis
• Investigative sufficiency (CID, OIS, homicide, sex crimes, child crimes, DV, robbery)
• Report articulation, policy alignment, and supervisory expectations
• Expert reports, affidavits, and testimony
I help attorneys understand:
• What the officer reasonably perceived
• Whether the force aligns with policy, training, and human performance science
• How BWC footage supports or contradicts perceived threat
• Whether an incident is defensible, problematic, or misinterpreted
• Whether investigative steps were sufficient or deficient
Available for case review, consultation, expert reports, and testimony.

Work Experience
Current Sergeant of the Major Crimes Unit, I lead seven detectives who investigate Robberies, Homicides, Public Integrity Crimes (including Officer Involved Shootings and other uses of force). Prior to Major Crimes I was the Special Crimes Sergeant, leading eight detectives investigating child abuse, family violence, sex crimes, and juvenile crimes. Before being assigned to CID, I also served as a Jail Sergeant and later a Patrol Sergeant. I currently hold a Master Peace Officer License, Mental Health Peace Officer Certification, and Instructor Certification from Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
The majority of my time as a detective was spent in Major Crimes investigating robberies, homicides, public integrity crimes, and other high profile incidents. I achieved my Force Science Certification during this time. I have attended training courses including Interview and Interrogation (Basic and Advanced), Analytical Interviewing, Officer Involved Shooting Investigations, Homicide Investigations, and Forensic Pathology for the Death Investigator.
As an officer I worked in patrol, was a field training officer, and member of our Crisis/Hostage Negotiations unit.
