Career
K. David Meit is an award-winning real estate manager and developer with over thirty years of experience managing conventional and rent-regulated multifamily, mixed-use, and retail properties in suburban and urban markets. He has held multiple leadership roles in the Institute of Real Estate Management and serves as an expert witness in cases involving property management standard of care.
Professional Experience
Meit is the Principal of Oculus Realty, LLC, a real estate management and advisory services firm in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, where he has worked since 2010. He is also the Principal of Oculus Development & Advisory Services, LLC, a real estate development firm focused on multifamily and mixed-use communities, since 2018. Additionally, he is a Co-Founder and Partner of Real Estate Service Systems, LLC, a company that helps property managers and rental owners meet their change of occupancy goals, since 2014.
Previously, Meit served as the Senior Vice President of Residential Operations at Vornado/Charles E. Smith (now JBG Smith) from 2009 to 2010, where he established multifamily property management operations in the Washington, D.C. area. From 2000 to 2009, he was the Executive Vice President at DARO Realty, Inc., responsible for strategic planning and ongoing operations of the firm's multifamily investment properties in Washington, D.C.

Meit has received numerous awards and recognitions throughout his career, including the AMO of the Year Award from the Institute of Real Estate Management in 2015, the CPM® of the Year Award in 2012, and the Past President's Award in 2012. He has also been recognized by the Property Management Association with the PACE Award for Distinguished Community and Lease-Up, the PMA President's Award, and the PMA Vision Award. Additionally, he has received the Outstanding Leadership Award from the Apartment & Office Building Association and the Best Apartment Community of the Year awards from Delta Associates.
Professional Affiliations
Meit has been actively involved in various professional organizations throughout his career. He has been a member of the Institute of Real Estate Management since 1994 and has held several leadership positions, including Governing Councilor, Chairperson of the National Ethics Committee, Vice Chairperson of the Designations & Certifications Committee, and Vice Chairperson of the National Finance & Audit Committee.
He is also a member of the National Apartment Association, where he has served on the Budget & Finance Committee and the RPM Careers Committee. Meit has been involved with the Property Management Association since 1996 and served as its President in 2004. Additionally, he has been a member of the Apartment & Office Building Association since 2000, serving on its Advisory Board of Directors and various committees.
Licenses and Accreditations
Meit holds professional licenses and accreditations, including being a Principal Broker in the District of Columbia, a Broker in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the State of Maryland. He is an Accredited Management Organization (AMO) and a Certified Property Manager (CPM®) from the Institute of Real Estate Management, as well as an Accredited Residential Manager (ARM®). He is also a Graduate of the REALTOR® Institute (GRI®) from the National Association of REALTORS®.
Volunteer Experience
Meit has been actively involved in various volunteer roles, including serving as a Commissioner on the Commission on Landlord-Tenant Affairs for the City of Gaithersburg since 2013. He has also served on the boards and committees of several organizations, such as The Metropolitan Center for the Visual Arts (VisArts), Makom, Hamiltonian Artists, Woodley Park Main Streets, CASA de Maryland, Rebuilding Together Montgomery County, and Temple Beth Ami.
Education
Meit received a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from Boston University in 1990. He has also completed various courses and programs related to real estate management and development, including courses at New York University's Real Estate Institute, the Property Management Association's Fellowship Program, and programs offered by the Urban Land Institute.
