Dr. Karim Joseph Hamawy is a highly credentialed and experienced urologist who would make an excellent expert witness for legal cases involving urological issues. He earned his MD from Boston University Medical School in 1990 after graduating summa cum laude from Boston College with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Dr. Hamawy completed his internship and residency in surgery and urology at Boston University Medical Center from 1990 to 1996.
Dr. Hamawy has been certified by the American Board of Urology since 1999 and has maintained his certification through recertification exams in 2009 and 2019. He currently serves as an Associate Program Director in the Division of Urology at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, MA, where he has been on staff since 1998. Prior to this role, Dr. Hamawy was a Clinical Instructor at Mount Auburn Hospital from 1996 to 1998.
With over 25 years of clinical experience, Dr. Hamawy has developed expertise in endoscopic management of benign prostatic hypertrophy, renal and ureteral calculi, and medical education. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, contributed book chapters, and presented at national conferences such as the American Urological Association. Dr. Hamawy also serves on the editorial board of Stat Pearls and as an ad hoc reviewer for several urology journals.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Hamawy has held numerous leadership positions, including Program Director for Urology at Lahey Hospital from 1999 to 2020 and Co-Director of the Prostate Center from 2000 to 2010. He is actively involved in professional societies such as the American Urological Association, where he serves as the Historian and Representative.
